UPTOWN NOLA — Gregory Morris of Slippin' Southern, along with 9 other New Orleans based artisans, has been chosen as a "West Elm LOCAL" artist and several of his works will be carried at the new West Elm Store opening next week in the Garden District at 2929 Magazine Street, New Orleans.
West Elm is having their New Orleans Grand Opening on July 24 and now brings the number of stores to 58 retail locations worldwide. West Elm is an upscale furnature and home furnishings store, owned by Williams-Sonoma, who also owns Pottery Barn, PB Kids, Rejuvenation and Mark and Graham.
OK, I admit we're super excited! To be chosen as a "local artisan" is really an honor and a benchmark for Slippin' Southern. It's a small step for our team to produce merchandise for one West Elm location, but it's a giant leap in confidence for our brand, to now be on the shelves of one of America's growing upscale retail stores. It was only five years ago that we started Slippin' Southern on a small farm in North Carolina by opening a shop on Etsy.com. From there, we've been a regular seller on One King's Lane, a supplier of instore displays for Nordstroms childrens' departments and a wholesaler to countless small retail shops across the country.
And now for this to all be happening since we moved our shop to our dream city of New Orleans is so exciting. We love living and working here, every since my wife Susan and I honeymooned here over 25 years ago, it has always been a dream of ours to reside in this beautiful, historic, charming city. It's just small enough to make it easy to get around, but it's big enough to draw visitors from all over the world to come and see its riches.
The private Grand Opening Party is set for July 21st and will benefiting Roots of Music, a local charity that provides musical instruments and musical activities to underprivileged children in the New Orleans area. The grand opening for the public will be the following Friday.
West Elm has asked us to supply the store with 5 of our very popular, handmade items. The first is our Rustic Chalk boards, available in three shapes, Shield, Tombstone and Oval. The other item is our popular Rustic Arrows, available in Cast Iron Black or Oyster White.
Other artists included in West Elm LOCAL are Kathleen Currie's Smoke Artisan Perfume Oil and Hayley Gaberlavage and Benjamin Massey's Haley + Ben reclaimed wood bud vases and posters by Kate Wyman's Grove Street Press.
If y'all are in the New Orleans area this summer, please stop by West Elm and see our items first hand, along with all of these other great LOCAL artisans works!
