Gregory + Susan + Owners + Partners for Life

Gregory is a Southern-born, Florida boy, military traveled and former art director currently in Chicago again. He loves type & design, obsesses over BBQ, and can easily walk three pugs at once.

Susan is a Chicago-born, Chicago-raised, and currently back in Chicago, former art director and designer, obsesses over flowers, art, and business, and can easily whip up a five course diner for six to twenty in an afternoon.

Susan Havens-Morris and Gregory Morris are married life colleagues, buddies, life long best friends, and design partners, who have collaborated on numerous projects over the years, including raising two beautiful adult children. Their current endeavor is Haven America which has grown into a wonderful expansive company that began as Slippin’ Southern

A true family pursuit, both grown children are actively involved in the company and have been for the past 6 years. Our son Greyson "the everything guy" Havens-Morris writes copy, runs daily production, and regularly comes up with fabulous timesaving ideas. Tatham, our daughter, is the fastest paint finisher North or South of the Mason Dixon line, screen printer, spread sheet guru, and will be bringing her new accounting and business managment skills into the fold via University of Loyola New Orleans.

The Roots are from the South

Our business all started in North Carolina as a by-product of renovation work we were doing on a historic preservation trust 1880's house + farm. A myriad of lumber was just sitting there after walls had been repaired and floors releveled. Our creative spirit could not let it go to waste. Fun southern word signs mixed with a little southern culture and all that rustic wood became Slippin' Southern in 2011. Soon there after whales, crabs, horses, pigs, and cows came next. We always kept it hand crafted as the scale and detail increased on the newer pieces the company began offering. Practice makes perfect and the more we sold the better our craftsmanship became allowing us to do framing and backgrounds for pieces using rustic lumber. In 2012, Slippin' Southern moved to New Orleans and so began the abundance of Barge wood.

By the time we got this wonderful wood, it had already lived three lives before, and instead of letting wood be discarded after the flooring mill was done, we salvaged the cut offs. A big contributor to our Salvaged Seaside Collection, warm brown tones mixed elegantly with rich navy, distressed metallics, and oyster whites.

2016 The Chicago Story

Six years in business and Chicago is unfolding a new chapter, a new name, a new space and a fresh perspective on fashion, style, and culture only a big city brings. It also is offering us access to a grand all-indoor studio space, where we have plenty of room to grow and stretch out. New designs are filling our heads, still rich with color, some things shiny now, and maybe more wood tones. Watch for shop updates and our blog here, Twitter, and Instgram. We, like all small business owners, do things ourselves, so social media takes aback seat to daily creations, and orders.

To this day we care about every piece that goes out our door, often stopping them at shipping for just one more touch-up. We like to make things, that offer that bit of whimsy, a smile, a memory that is brought back, those pieces are forever! So from our Haven to yours, bring in what you enjoy, love looking at those things that inspire you and maybe that is a piece from us, we hope so.
